A powerful interview candidate tool that is still relevant today is a written thank you note. I would argue that instead of just sending one written thank you note, you should send multiple written thank you notes to everyone you interviewed with.

Be specific, enthusiastic and candid with your written note and send it via “snail mail” right away.

Here is an example:

Dear Susan,

Thank you for taking the time to interview me for the crucial COO position.

I am extremely excited about the challenges we talked about especially in the area of reengineering the call center training systems. As you know, I have over 8 years of experience in this specific area and bring innovative ideas that would add tremendous value to this challenge.

I already talked to my family about moving to Austin to take this role and everyone is excited about this potential, long-term move.

I am looking forward to the next steps of your interview process.

Frankly, I also feel that the company culture fits perfectly with who I am.

Thank you!

When you take the time to write a written thank you note, the first gut response you will get from your interviewers will be, “he/she took the time to write a nice note. Well done!” This gut reaction can help you leap over other potential candidates.
