This is a continuing series about clients I learn from that have helped me become better at what I do as an Austin area Executive Search Firm owner.

I am blessed with some wonderful, long term client relationships since I started in the Executive Search business in 1997. The first person I wrote about recently was Kasha Bartholomew, VP HR of Velocity Credit Union.

Tony Budet is President/CEO of University Federal Credit Union in Austin. I have never, ever heard a bad word about Tony from anyone in the community or in his organization. He has helped me more than I have helped him over the years and I know he does not keep a score card. We met in 2001 (introduced by an outstanding Board member, Dr Carl Hansen) and since that introduction, Tony’s referrals have accounted for multiple executive search opportunities in the Austin community for my firm.

Two things really stand out about Tony. As a CEO he truly believes his #1 job is the development of his employees. Not only his direct reports but EVERYONE in the organization. He is always looking for opportunities to grow his employees so they can become the very best they can be. Trust me on this one: Tony  is passionate about development. Many CEO’s tend to give this area lip service especially when organizations go through turbulent times.

The second area is that Tony gave me the simplest and most effective advice that I attempt to incorporate every day into my business and personal dealings. He told me that “everyone wants to feel important” no matter if a janitor, professor, house wife or CEO. You have to give each and person the respect that they are important. That is a great starting point in any relationship.

Thank you Tony for being a great role model for me and my business. You are an uncommon CEO.
