Almost everyone wants to be successful in what they do for a living plus successful with their personal life. In my opinion and based on 59 years of trying, success in life actually comes down to some simple tenets. Of course, this is a journey and I am totally a work in progress.
Here are eight life principles to consider:
1) Keep it simple. People appreciate simplicity as they possess a limited amount of time and energy to comprehend what you are saying.
2) Be who you are. The faster you can become who you were meant to be, the faster you will have success because people can sense a genuine person and are attracted to real people. Trust in your own, unique greatness.
3) Truly listen. Most people are thinking about what they are going to say next rather than listening. Take the time to listen and people will appreciate you as they want to be fully understood and heard.
4) Treat everyone as important. From the Janitor to the CEO, we all play an important part in the cycle of life. This says a ton about who you are as a human being. As Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “see yourself in everyone you encounter.”
5) Rid yourself of insecurities. Admit it, we all have insecurities based on fear. Insecurities also get in the way of your confidence and limit your ability to move forward. Get rid of the old baggage as it will weigh you down.
6) Just do it. It is better to move forward with actions and then adjust versus just sitting on the sidelines not moving towards any goal. Over-thinking can kill progress.
7) Be resilient. Get off the floor and get back into the game. A new day brings challenges and opportunities that can’t be planned for. It could be your lucky day.
8) Be a true optimist. Even when bad things happen, the good will eventually occur if you are paying attention.
Told you this was simple. I certainly don’t know all the answers. Far from it. However, keep these tenets in mind and the journey may be a more satisfying ride.
