When I am asked about career development and planning, I like to point out that the job you are in right now is a perfect one.
When I think back about my angst related to what my future career would look like, little did I know that each job I had was the perfect one getting me ready for what my passion is today: a retained executive search consultant firm owner.
Examples are abundant:
- As a first year teacher out of college, I was able to build my planning and public speaking skills
- As a customer service coordinator and inside sales rep, I was able to expand my customer centric skills
- As a human resource executive, I was able to enhance my recruiting, listening and persuasive skills
- As a consultant, I was able to amplify my client credibility skills
In seven years of having a retained search firm, I can look back and truly say that all of the jobs that I have held have helped me develop and get ready for today’s challenges.
The job you have right now is the perfect job. Trust that you will be able to build on what you learn today in your current job and the skills absorbed will be used in your future.
