My business offers three areas of expertise (executive retained search, executive coaching and executive outplacement).
On the Outplacement side I often am asked what is the best single advice for someone searching for a job?
I have seen this answer work well many many times: obtain at least 3 or more face to face coffee meetings with hiring executives every week (if you are unemployed).
If you already have a job, scale that back to at least one face to face meeting per week with hiring executives.
People are more inclined to help you if you visit with them face to face. Also, you will have a better chance of getting traction on this question (that you should ask at the end of the conversation): “do you know anyone else that may have a need for my skill-set” and use that information as your next referral.
Keep your job search simple and execute the fundamentals and power of face to face personal marketing. It is hard work and may take you out of your comfort zone but it pays off. 3 meetings per week becomes 12 per month and 36 in three months. The volume of face to face meetings will lead to job offers.
