Veering away from my business blog this morning and want to express something more from a regret point of view.
My Aunt Connie died this past week and we attended her funeral in Milwaukee. She was 83 years old. She had a very simple and short funeral service (as she wanted). Some of us in her family did have the opportunity to express what she meant to us. Her Daughters, Nephews, Nieces and Son-in-Law told stories about their experiences with Aunt Connie.
My memory that I expressed was about her perfectionism. I also commented on the close family she helped create by her cooking and all of us crowded around her dining room during the 1960’s.
As I began thinking of her this weekend, I don’t believe my comments really did justice to who she really was. What I should have said was that she was very bright. She had a sharp mind for accounting and finances. She did not have a formal education but she was as smart as any CFO I have ever met. She was a tough lady. She would stand up to anyone who ever even intimated a negative word about her family. She had more fight in her than Joe Frazier and Mohamed Ali put together.
What I should have said was that she had the talent, drive and smarts to perhaps become the first Woman President of the United States if she was born in today’s generation. Really. She would have made Hillary Clinton look weak.
We will miss you Aunt Connie. You were a strong, tough, smart lady and a great Aunt.
