Debbie Mitchell is the President of Velocity Credit Union in Austin, Texas. Debbie started with Velocity 27 years ago as a Lending Assistant and worked her way up the organization in diverse operations roles and became President in January, 2009. What a great example to fellow Velocity employees who have their own ambitions and career dreams.
What do I admire about Debbie? The first thing is that she is a tremendous, patient listener. Very poised and takes the time to truly understand the person and the issue.
Debbie also possesses tremendous intuition about hiring good people. She has created and hired a wonderful team around her and her track record hiring and recruiting very good people with our firm is excellent.
In my opinion, her core strength as a Leader is that once Debbie hires great people, her belief in them allows them to grow and fully develop. We have completed four searches for Debbie since 2008 (2-Regional Managers and 2-VP Finance) and I sense a strong belief in my firm when we are in the process of executing searches. This is hugely empowering as you want to perform up to the high belief level she has in you.
In my mind, Debbie listens extremely well, hires smart and lets people operate to their best potential as she firmly believes in them. To work for Debbie Mitchell is a very empowering experience.
