Providing candid feedback to candidates on their interviewing experience is vital to developing a relationship with the candidate so they will remain interested in the client opportunity.

I attempt to paint a picture for the candidate so they can truly understand where they stand with the opportunity. For example, I may use an analogy such as “you hit a triple and hopefully your next interview will bring you home,” or “on a one to ten scale you scored a nine,” or “after two interviews you are now on the 5 yard line ready to run it into the end zone.”

This is a simple way to communicate but it is also effective. Using analogy feedback paints a picture for the candidate so they can assess their chances for the opportunity and whether they want to stay in a lengthy interview process. This also sets the table for further conversation on specifics you may want to offer so you can get them ready for the last steps of the process.

“Paint” a picture for your candidate so that they know where they stand. It will pay off at the end of the recruiting cycle for the client and candidate and allow you to close the deal successfully.
