So your candidate just interviewed for the last time with your client company and you are waiting on feedback from the company. Will it be a “yes” or “no” related to the next step offer stage?

In this particular situation (that I am actually working on today), the candidate interviewed yesterday and his feedback was very good about his interest in the company and the interview experience. Since then, my check back with the company’s HR Executive was that she is checking with her Managers related to whether or not they want to hire this candidate. In the meantime, she told me to alert the candidate to have his references ready if the answer is “yes” for a job offer.

I always verge on over-communicating at this stage. The candidate needs feedback and he wants to assess his chances after spending the time and energy in the interview. Calling the candidate directly to tell him exactly where we are at (in this case, waiting on feedback but get your reference list ready) is a very good way to insure your credibility and establish trust as the executive recruiter.

The chances for a successful acceptance are improved when you communicate directly and timely to the candidate. This is not the time to go silent.
