Tip #2
Dress one-half step above the company norm when interviewing
It is important to understand the company culture for dress before you interview. Understand what it is by checking with the recruiter you are working with. If you are not being sent in to interview by a recruiter, obtain an understanding from the company HR contact or from someone within the company (perhaps use a LinkedIn connection to help you with this).
Dressing one-half step above for a Male candidate potentially could be defined as wearing a sports jacket, dress pants with a dress shirt without a tie compared to the company norm of only dress pants and dress shirt (no sports jacket). Dressing one-step above for a Female candidate potentially could be defined as a skirt or pants, sweater plus necklace and earrings compared to the company norm of only skirt or pants plus sweater (no jewelry).
Dressing one-half step above the company norm communicates that you want to fit into the culture but that you also highly respect the company interview process. This subtlety will help the candidate and this could make a difference while competing with other candidates.
